Debbie Mayer, Chapter Secretary Treasurer
Debbie Maynor Chapter President

Welcome to the International Public Management Association for HR Texas Chapter (IPMA-HR TX). I am very happy to see our chapter entering its fourth year. In just a few years the IPMA-HR TX chapter, with the support of our generous sponsors, has been able to provide you with excellent conferences and workshops! We have brought you current and relevant information on human resources topics, offered opportunities to obtain your IPMA-HR certification, and provided unique networking opportunities with human resources professionals in public sector from across the great state of Texas. In 2017 we also had the privilege of hosting the IPMA-HR national conference in San Antonio!

I am delighted to tell you that we are already starting to plan the IPMA-HR Texas 2018 Annual Conference. As usual, we plan to bring you the BEST- informative workshops, insightful keynote speakers and stimulating networking opportunities that will appeal to the interests of human resources professionals at all levels.  The 2018 conference will be held in the Houston area and planned under the leadership of our chapter Vice President, Omar Reid who will serve as the conference planning committee chair.  If you are interested in helping us plan this event please reach out to Omar for more information on how you can be a part of what promises to be another outstanding event. Stay tuned to the website for more information.

I have more exciting news about our chapter for 2018. As you may be aware, the IPMA-HR Texas chapter has operated with the support and oversight of the Texas Municipal Human Resources Association(TMHRA) Board; this partnership made it possible to start the IPMA-HR Texas chapter.  Over the last four years the IPMA-HR Texas chapter board members have been developing the foundations needed for our chapter to become an independent organization– and we have finally received State and IRS approval to be designated as a non-profit organization committed to providing professional development as a 501(c)(6) organization.  So, in 2018, the IPMA-HR Texas Chapter will become an independent association!! As we move in this direction we will continue to provide you with excellent opportunities for collaboration with leaders from various public-sector entities including municipalities, counties, state agencies, federal agencies, school districts, universities, etc. Our goal during this transition is to continue to provide you with quality professional development opportunities for all levels of public sector HR professionals.

To help in making this an easy transition for you, as we make the transition to becoming an independent organization, the IPMA-HR Texas board has voted to extend your membership in the Texas chapter. All Texas chapter memberships that were current as of September 2017, have been extended and will not expire until the end of December 2017.  I encourage you to renew your membership now and be ahead of the rush at the end of the year.  Going forward, your chapter memberships will be aligned to the calendar year; new/renewed memberships will be for the period of January 2018. through December 2018.  If you have not already done so, please take the opportunity to renew your membership with IPMA-HR Texas Chapter https://www.txipma.org/membershiprenewal-application-form. This is a great way to invest in your career. When you visit the website https://www.txipma.org/   to renew your dues, please take a moment to browse the website.

Membership in the chapter provides benefits that include:

  • Continuous professional development
  • Discounted training and seminars
  • Regular update on HR industry news and proposed legislative changes
  • Access to a wide network of HR professionals in Texas
  • Timely information about upcoming area HR training with partnering organizations
  • Budget-friendly membership dues

Along with the chapter board members, I am looking forward to another great year. Should you have any questions, ideas, or wish to serve on a committee, our board members are available to assist you. I hope to see you at an upcoming chapter event. Stay tuned to our website for information on upcoming activities and events!
